Prof. Dr. Benedikt Morschheuser

Dr. Benedikt Morschheuser is Professor of Business Informatics at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU). Endowed by adidas, he heads the Junior Professorship for Gamification at the Institute for Business Informatics (WIN).

Dr. Morschheuser studied at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and received a diploma in industrial engineering in 2012. In 2017, he also received his doctorate in business informatics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In 2021, he followed a call to Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg and has since held the adidas Endowed Professorship for Business Informatics, in particular Gamification.

His entire academic career has taken place in close collaboration with industry. From 2013 to 2014, he worked as a researcher at the University of Leipzig and investigated the future of banking together with the University of St.Gallen for a research consortium of the German and Swiss financial industry. In 2014, he joined Corporate Research at Robert Bosch GmbH to investigate the design of gamified systems and services. From 2017 to 2021, he worked in the innovation department "Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric mobility (CASE)" of Daimler AG and the Digital Transformation unit (Digital House) of Mercedes-Benz AG. As part of these activities, Dr. Morschheuser has worked as an associated researcher with research groups at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, the University of Mannheim, the University of St.Gallen, and the Tampere University of Technology.

Dr. Morschheuser's research focuses on the design of interactive information systems and digital services and, in particular, on optimizing the interaction between people and information technologies. His particular focus is on the increasing penetration of technology, business and everyday life with games and elements from games/games as well as phenomena coming from the (video) games industry, such as virtual & augmented reality, virtual goods, eSports or serious games.

Dr. Morschheuser's research aims at providing new insights for the development of more motivating, more effective, and more human-centered information systems and digital services. In particular, he investigates the design of gamified and motivational information systems and the effects of (gaming-) specific design features of information technologies on human motivation and behavior.

His research is applied in various industries (e.g. automotive, banking, healthcare, consumer goods, teaching...) and fields (e.g. sales & marketing, mobility, collaboration, product design, innovation, creativity...) and addresses current challenges of organizations and society.
